Watercolors at the Beach

It was our day to go to the beach. August and vacation. The beach chairs, umbrellas, towels and sunscreen are packed. How about sketchbooks and water color paints? Haven't done that... ever! What has taken me so long? Hugh and I both have the Winsor and Newton travel watercolor set. Mine has been tucked away for too many years.
Summer vacation time.

Sitting in my beach chair trying to figure out how to make the water and paint work. Children playing, people coming and going. Experimenting with umber and ultramarine to see what works for shadow color (forgot - no black in the water color pallet). Oh, this perspective is off. Oh, that looks wrong. Oh, who cares? What a gorgeous day! Girls to their waists in the shallow water of the shore break playing "over" / "under". Dipping under the cool waves. Floating and looking at the sky. Sitting in the sunshine listening to the surf. How lucky am I just to be here?

The Town did a great job replenishing the beach sand near Mecox Bay.
The beach looked like this after this winter's storms:

The beach is back to its beautiful self.
