The Artist Alliance of East Hampton show also honored a founding member, Ralph Carpentier. A life long painter of the local landscape, Carpentier recently passed away at the age of 87. One of his beautiful seascapes was prominently displayed in a separate gallery. As I gazed at the image of deftly rendered fisherman, golden sun slightly above the clouds on the horizon, I thought, "Are they fishing at dawn or at dusk?" Carpentier's fellow fisherman artists probably know the answer, but to me the question touched my heart as the perfect metaphor.
